要求考生分析作者運用某一寫作手法的目的。常見的提問方式有：
⑴ The writer uses...to (show that) ______. ⑵ By quoting..., the author intends to_____. ⑶ By telling the story of...， the author intends to__________. ⑷ The story of...is used to __________. 作者運用某種寫作手法的目的或是要引出主題、突出主題，或是要吸引讀者關注主題，或是要把主題說明得更清楚。
分析寫法目的 常用的寫作手法的目的有：
⑴ 開頭提出問題——讓讀者關注主題。 ⑵ 簡介相關事物——為了引出主題。 ⑶ 列舉具體事例——說明文段的主題。 ⑷ 運用比擬或比喻——讓讀者易理解抽象或陌生的事物。 ⑸ 引語——說明或論證某個觀點，或使自己的觀點更有說服力。
無論哪種手法，也不管出于何種目的，都必定與主題相關，為主題服務。
